Brian Mulroney's Lamborghini sped up into the driveway of the mansion. He exhaled thinking about what was going on. Here he was with this big wedding and was completely unsure. Brian knew he loved Rowan but was it time? That was the question he constantly asked himself. Was it time to let all the women go and finally give into his father? He wanted him to be a mini version of him. Eventually taking everything he built and making it his empire. Right now he was content with running Club Razor. But once he was married he was expected to start the new legacy. Since it was already known that Natalie was infertile, he was the future of Mulroney clan. He was unsure of everything most of all Rowan.
Walking into the foyer he instantly was stunned at how his parents went all out. Soon he’d be having a kid. Sadly Rowan and he would lose that fun they once had. Quickly walking into the ballroom he noticed how stunning she was. She was so beautiful. It was times like this when his heart ached for what he was doing to Rowan. His eyes scanned the room and he spotted his father. He was talking to New York business men. He had heard the rumors of expanding the Skylight Hotel brand. If that happened then he expected to be given this task. That was too much pressure. To take the legacy of the Mulroney’s and be the future of it he couldn’t take it. He slowly walked toward her.
Placing her hands over her eyes and leaning.
“Guess who?”
Rowan eyes went dark as her grandparents beamed with pride. They were just as excited about this marriage as she was.
“Is this my handsome fiancé who has been missing?” Rowan asked playfully.
“Now how did you know? Hello Mr. and Mrs. Duncan I hope you two are enjoy the party tonight.”
“Even more now that you’re here my granddaughter has been waiting for a long time.” Phoebe said looking at them.
Brian grabbed Rowan’s hand.
“Pardon us.” he said with a big smile on his face.
“Where are we going?’ She giggled as he continued to drag her upstairs. ‘Slow down we have a party full of people who are here for us.”
“I don’t care about them. All I care about is you. I don’t want all of this.”
“What do you mean?”
“Let’s elope, and let’s leave.” He begged looking at Rowan they were so happy in Vegas.
“That’s crazy our families are downstairs your family is flying in the next couple of weeks. We can’t do that baby.”
“I guess you’re right,’ he pulled her close to his body and held her. ‘I just don’t want to disappoint you. I hate this freak show circus that my parents have down there. I want this to be about us. I don’t know if this is truly about us anymore.”
“Don’t let Genievea and Maxwell trick you into believing that this isn’t our day. Don’t forget that.” Rowan was sure.
No she was more than sure she was certain. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” Brian held her knowing that he was slipping deeper into the depression of his family legacy.
Cordelia had already opened a bottle of her father’s vintage wine. She was sure that he’d notice one day but today wasn’t that day. Being around Noah totally still affected her. He was he truly her first love. It still felt hard to breathe around him. She took a deep gulp and leaned her head back to see a pair of Italian leather heels.
“When you were angry, scared, hurt, and just wanted some privacy you came down here. I used to swear you were drinking. We had a little drunk on our hand.” Natalie laughed as she walked down the stairs. “Now finally I’ve caught you.”
Cordelia stood up and walked into her sister arms. “Well, guilty as charged I need a drink.”
“Was it mom or dad?” Natalie grabbed the wine bottle and laughed it was a thousand dollar bottle. She poured some in her sister glass and took a sip.
“It wasn’t either of them actually smarty pants. It was Noah and Drea. I don’t believe that they’re still together. Call me jealous or angry or just plain bitchy but I still want to rip her eyes out. I hate her and still miss him. He was my first love and Thomas is dead… I just wish maybe…”
“She wasn’t in the way? Cordelia let’s be real you aren’t that girl. You would never and I mean ever go after someone man. That’s more my style when I was your age.”
“Yeah you’re right. Sadly I think this is all about Tommy. I feel have this whole inside of me and it’s eating me alive for answers.”
“Cordelia you still haven’t let it go.”
“How can I let go my future was ripped from me?”
“I thought you spending time with Kimber and grandma would help you get over that mess. I know the kidnapping is hard but you survived. Honey you can’t keep this up. You just can’t.”
“What am I supposed to do? Huh? Am I supposed forget that I was kidnapped and everything was taken from me?” She asked looking at her older sister. “I’m going to find out why I was kidnapped and why was Thomas dead.”
“Let me hire someone to investigate your kidnapping. If something comes up then we’ll go from there. You don’t go looking for trouble understand?”
“We have an understanding.”
Natalie grabbed her little sister hands and looked at her one last time. “It’s good to have you home Cordelia.”
Cordelia smiled at her sister but Aztec Springs wouldn’t feel like home until she hand answers. Why was she kidnapped and why after they released them did they kill Thomas?
Rowan spun around the solarium it was still so damn beautiful. She hated that it had been tainted with the memories of Genievea words. Her eyes watered as she looked at Brian.
He grabbed her scooping her into his arms. He flopped down on the silk couch and her body seemed to sync with his as the laid together. Brian looked down at her eyes and he saw worry. “What’s wrong Rowan?”
“I got dressed in this room and it’s still has her feeling in here.” Rowan hand rubbed her neck softly thinking of Genievea agonizing words.
Her father had some secret? What was going on? That wasn’t her daddy. He was amazing hero and she knew him. Her heart started to beat slow thinking about her father. How could he be wrapped up in something so horrible that Genievea got wind of it? That wasn’t her daddy.
“Your mother attacked me in our room. Now it doesn’t even feel the same.” she admitted to Brian.
“What do you mean attacked?” he asked cautiously.
“She threatened me to leave or else she’d reveal something about my father.” Rowan voice cracked.
Brian felt her tears on his hand and instantly got angry. “That’ll be the last time she does that understand? I’m sorry you saw her ugly side.”
“No, I saw my father’s ugly side. Whatever secret your mother has on him is beyond bad.”
Brian knew he parents if his mother had something on Anthony it was legit. “I’m going to get to the bottom of this.”
“I love so much I knew you were going to take care of this,” she laid in his arms, ‘Come one we have to get back to our party.”
“I guess.”
“Try to look like you care when people introduce themselves to you.” She smiled sitting up.
“I’ll try as hard as you consider eloping.”
Adam Duncan grumbled lightly as he at the fancy hors d’oeuvres this wasn’t his family way. Rowan had always been a fashion plate. Marry into this traitorous family made him sad. He worked years around this family and had seen them destroy so many people. The Mulroney’s to the media were darling people but to the people of Aztec Springs they were poison. Adam didn’t want to seem like a damn snob but he couldn’t stand his wife’s friendship with Genievea.
Adam searched the room for Rowan and Brian so that he could say good-bye. He’d grab Phoebe and they’d retire for the night. His cellphone vibrated and he dug into his pants pocket. When he saw private number Adam pressed ignore. Then it vibrated again. He curiously answered the call.
“Who is this?”
“That doesn’t matter Mr. Duncan I however do know that your daughter life is in grave danger.”
Adam felt a chill run down his spine. He was fiercely protective over his two children. He knew what Julian was doing overseas. Just like how he knew what Jennifer was doing. Years of military training had his senses going crazy. His first thought was why disguise the voice? This wasn’t a prank call. This was serious.
“What do you know?”
“Very good Mr. Duncan you know how this game works. I’m informing you because I hate Anthony. Anthony Stallworth isn’t real. Anthony Stallworth is an imaginary creation dig deep. He’s buried the truth but dig for it Adam. Or else your daughter will end up like mine dead.”
The phone line went dead and his head was spinning. His heart stopped. Years of knowing that something was off about Anthony were validated. This doesn’t negate the good he brought into Jennifer life but he was now the danger. He couldn’t live with himself knowing Anthony was a con and was conning his daughter. Adam had to protect her. He knew his daughter pride would be wounded. So he wouldn’t say anything into he found out solid facts.
Adam didn’t know what was going to happen next but he knew for a fact his family was going to be safe.
“This room brings back so many memories.” she smiled looking at Cole.
Natalie walked to Cole sat down on his lap. “I am so worried about my little sister Cole she is investigating that kidnapping.” Her eyes watered looking at him.
“Don’t worry I’m going to have some guys looking into it.” Cole kissed his wife neck.
“Guess what?”
“What?”
“I talked to Anna Espinoza and she said we can start the adoption process. So I want know Natalie a boy or a girl?”
Natalie body stiffed she got up and walked to the window. Staring out she started to cry and it wasn’t tears of joy. They were angry and she became furious. “So you’re just ready to give up on us having a baby? Next month were supposed to go to fertility clinic. Were still trying Cole! I still want to try!”
Cole got up and saw how much he upset his wife. In what should have been a joyful moment had turned painful.
“I’m being realistic Natalie. We haven’t had any luck. So don’t play martyr with me Natalie. You want a kid and I do too. Why can’t we put aside DNA for one second and actually be happy?” His chest heaved looking at Natalie.
“I want my father to know his grandchild is his blood is that so damn bad? I know this may sound horrible but don’t want someone else child! I want my own. I want my own baby Cole and you don’t want that with me. Just say it. I’ve been waiting for years to hear it.”
“I love you what are you saying? I’m not going anywhere!”
Natalie ran into Cole arms crying as she buried her head in his shoulder.
“Baby I’m not going anywhere you hear me?”
“Cole I just want to keep trying. I have so much love for our baby. We are going to have this baby. I know I behave like I don’t care but I do.’ she confessed looking hurt at her husband, ‘I love you and I know you intentions were good but I’m not ready for the adoption process.”
“Then let’s push up that fertility appointment because I want t a little boy and girl. Maybe we’ll end up like Octomom,’ Cole teased Natalie, ‘Ms. Dior wearing maternity clothes would be a kick.”
She playfully slapped his shoulder. “Don’t say that I don’t want that many kids!”
Natalie laughed as she held onto Cole. For once things looked optimistic. For once her mind wasn’t on Dias Marcosi but the future she and Cole wanted.
“Bartender please hurry,” she ordered a martini and needed it.
Cordelia was frazzled feeling all the pent up stress coming up. Everyone had moved on and forgotten how painful Thomas death was on her. That broke Cordelia. They shared something special. Wiping her tears from her eyes she tipped the bartender as he returned. A part of her secretly wondered if she had placed her feelings of Noah on Thomas. That was the past. She still wanted answers and didn’t have them.
“Pardon me.” Alex said smoothly sitting down by Cordelia.
He couldn’t believe it. She was really back in town. This was his chance. A part of him felt twisted for this but Thomas never deserved Cordelia.
“Yes? Can I help you?” Cordelia wanted to continue in her thoughts alone.
“I don’t believe you don’t remember me. That makes me feel bad.”
“I’m sorry we’ve met?” she would have remembered a handsome guy like him or so she thought.
“Yes, we met at a frat party. You were with this guy but I approached you anyway. I thought you were beautiful Cordelia.” Alex sat back wondering what she was thinking.
Cordelia immediately wanted to push the guy away.
Then she thought about it and a little light flirting wouldn’t be bad. Plus, he was sweet to her during one of her many frat party’s days with Thomas.
“Well thank-you first of all and second I don’t remember you at all.” she laughed.
“Honesty that’s a good sign sadly I was crossing my fingers for a memory.”
“Don’t pretend you’re hurt. You’re glad to talking to me.”
“Cocky too I like it.”
“You’ll like anything I do.”
“True but I’d like you better in the nude.”
Cordelia scoffed slapping his shoulder as her hand laid on his. He was fun. She really didn’t know if she should be offended or turned on. She choose a turned off but her face definitely said she was interested.
“You disgust me.”
“You like me.”
Cordelia couldn’t believe this guy arrogance.
Alex couldn’t believe how receptive she was being. When his cellphone went off he felt himself get pissed. It was another one of his clients. He huffed loudly then, questioned money or Cordelia? Money won out.
“I have to go but umm I’ll be seeing you around.”
“No you won’t.”
“Yes I will.”
“No you won’t you see I don’t plan on staying here so…”
“You’ll never forget me.”
Cordelia froze looking at the handsome stranger. His words rang in her ears like she had heard his voice before. She could still remember the gravely sound of the other man who kidnapped her. Shaking off the feeling of ill content, Cordelia smiled at him.
Alex looked in her eyes and felt like she was searching. Like Cordelia was looking straight through him. Like she knew what he had done. Alex walked away wondering if he had made a big mistake.
Cordelia on the other hand sat back with her drink wondering if she’d just found a reason to stick around Aztec Springs.
Anthony paced the floors wondering what exactly his investigator had found out, “It’s been years and you still haven’t located Armitage’s briefcase. You’re fucking kidding me.”
Jennifer had followed her husband into the study. Just as she was about to announce she expected the party to end. She overheard the tail-end of her husband conversation. He was using obscene language. Jennifer barely cursed and Anthony never did so it was shocking to hear him say those words.
“I’ve spent so much money trying to find it. Now you tell me you’ve once again lost where it could be? The stupidity is utterly amazing, listen to me carefully. If you find it very soon I’m going to make you wish I didn’t save your pathetic life. You owe me and I’m going to cash in understood? Find it or else I’m screwed!” Anthony yelled into the phone hanging up he leaned on the desk.
He was breathing hard. Armitage knew who he really was. That briefcase held everything and he was dying to find it. Anthony opened his eyes and a demented expression showed on his face. He wasn’t going to lose his life. Not the perfect life he created. He wasn’t ready to, not now or later.
Jennifer slowly pulled back walking backwards. Almost knocking over a vase, as her face contorted in fear. Who was that? His voice even sounded different. That wasn’t her husband. That man validated the phone call earlier. “Who are you?” Jennifer voice quivered walking away.
